Work on the new six-stop line is due to start this year, after Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) appointed Metrolink expansion contractor M-Pact Thales to construct the 3.4mile (5.5km) line.
Initial enabling and utility works are due to start along the route next week. As part of these works some isolated and localised traffic management measures, including lane closures, may be required.
The Trafford Park line will branch off from the existing Pomona tram stop, calling at key destinations including Wharfside, near to Old Trafford football stadium, the Imperial War Museum, Trafford Park (Europe’s largest industrial estate), Eventcity and the intu Trafford Centre.
Trafford Park is the largest major employment zone in Greater Manchester outside the city centre and is home to over 1,300 businesses and more than 35,000 jobs – with employees travelling from across Greater Manchester and further afield.
Staff will be available to answer any questions about the new line at the following drop-ins:
Peter Cushing, Metrolink Director for TfGM, said: “Keeping people informed about our work to expand the tram network has been key to Metrolink’s success.
“We’re committed to keeping businesses, residents, employees, commuters and visitors to the area up-to-date at every stage of the work to build a new line through Trafford Park to the Trafford Centre.
“I’d encourage anyone with an interest to sign up to keep in the loop with regular news bulletins at www.tfgm.com/MetrolinkTPL.”
Further information will be available at www.tfgm.com/MetrolinkTPL as the project progresses. You can sign up here to stay in the loop with all the latest news, updates and travel advice.
See progress with the new line by following #MetrolinkTPL on Twitter and Facebook or, to speak to someone, call TfGM on 0161 244 1555 (lines open during office hours).
Work on the new tram line is expected to take around four years. When it opens, the Metrolink network will span more than 64 miles (103km) served by 99 stops.
