Beka Haigh

#House is a performance piece where two slightly unnerving estate agents attempt to sell a (clearly haunted) doll’s house to the highest bidder. The house is a 1:12 scale, fully illustrated model of a seemingly ordinary (if a little dilapidated) northern based, terraced back to back dwelling. Inside however, a whole host of strange things happen: an oven turns on and glows, a picture on the wall spins, the TV turns on, a lawnmower runs of its own accord, a tentacle rises from the bathtub and something can be seen lurking in the upstairs cupboard…

#House was created by Beka H of Frolicked

Beka is an artist, performer and illustrator based in the North of England. Much of her work can be described by the term ‘live illustration’ and her portfolio includes live drawing or graphic recording (also known as ‘scribing’), 2D and 3D installations and live art and performance. Her work often combines interactive performance and open source technology in surprising ways.

For a number of years, Beka has worked as a multi-disciplinary artist in the outdoor arts sector. She has worked as a devisor, maker, performer and puppeteer for a number of outdoor theatre companies and street arts organisations, starting her journey with the inventive site specific company, IOU Theatre (I was the guinea pig for their Space Time Tools Advice residency programme). Since 2007, Beka has led her own theatre company, Frolicked.
